Some debates centred on out-of-universe arguments: should Trek retain a PG rating and be accessible for everyone, or should it evolve to fit within a contemporary television ecosystem? Other debates focused more on in-universe issues: by the time of the 23rd and 24th Centuries shouldn't humanity have advanced beyond a need for crass expletives? I don't think those debates were conclusively resolved one way or the other, and I don't think there is much more to add on the topic that hasn't already been said. When Tilly dropped her infamous f-bomb it sparked quite a bit of discussion about swearing in Star Trek. I'm also looking to see if I handled the switch from third to first person well. This is the first real combat of the novel, and I'm wanting to show readers that while this is portal fantasy with ships, it isn't Pirates of the Caribbean-people will die. I will take any feedback I can get, but I'm really focused on whether or not the action is clear enough, the tension is good, and whether or not the stakes seem sufficiently drawn. This chapter picks up as one of the White One's ships is pursuing. She saved him from creatures working for the big bad, THE WHITE ONE, who has already captured Landon's father. In this chapter, my POV character LANDON PIKE has just come aboard from Earth and is still wrapping his head around the fact that AZARA has rescued aboard a magical 18th Century sailing ship that sails the Aether, the world btween worlds. The ships themselves consist of hull model, and configurable masts and sails, so new types may even be altered. This excerpt is chapter VIII in my completed fantasy novel The Aether Wasp, which I am rewriting in first person (from third person limited). If it had an ability to fetch the ship to, or make boarding by boats it would be almost complete 18th century naval warfare simulator. The game itself, despite being very old, features a very flexible database, a set of models, scenario editor, even a possibility to command a single ship or a squadron, while other ships on the same side are driven by AI (which is not the brightest, but quite competent), decent sailing mechanics, a bunch of land maps with forts and what not. And then I almost accidentally discovered a way to insert completely new textures into the game. I come more from a background of modding and 3d modelling, but with perpetual fascination with the sailing warfare.Īnyway, some time ago I began to tinker with the old Age of Sail 2: Privateers Bounty game, making modifications to database, replacing textures on various models to give more realistic, as it was possible at the moment, vision. Seems this is the only forum section a new user can post something.
